신앙을 권하기 전에 잔학한 짓을 남발하는 신명기 21장이나 해명해 보시길
신명기 21장은 역대급으로 수치스러운 장입니다. 인간이 저지른 살인은 어린 소를 죽여서 대신하고, 전쟁 포로 여자는 잠자리 상대로 삼고, 말 안 듣는 아들은 마을 사람들과 함께 돌로 처 죽이고 나무에 매달아 놓게 하고는 땅이 더럽혀질까 봐 하루 만에 장사를 지내라고 합니다. 성경적 모순, 뭐랄까 전체주의적이고 공포정치의 전형을 보여서 마치 북한 공산당을 만행을 보는 것 같습니다.
살인을 속죄하는 방식
1. "If in the land that the Lord your God is giving you to possess someone is found slain, lying in the open country, and it is not known who killed him, 2 then your elders and your judges shall come out, and they shall measure the distance to the surrounding cities. 3 And the elders of the city that is nearest to the slain man shall take a heifer that has never been worked and that has not pulled in a yoke. 4 And the elders of that city shall bring the heifer down to a valley with running water, which is neither ploughed nor sown, and shall break the heifer's neck there in the valley. 5 Then the priests, ths sons of Levi, shall come forward, for the Lord your God has chosen them to minister to him and to bless in the name of the Lord, and by their word every dispute and every assaults shall be settled. 6 Accept atonement, O Lord, for your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, and do not set the guilt of innocent blood in the midst of your people Israel, so that their bloodguilt may be atoned for.' 9 So you shall purge the guilt of innocent blood from your midst, when you do what is right in the sight of the Lord.
하나님은 분명히 인간보다 식물 동물을 먼저 만드셨는데 어느새 동물이 인간의 죄를 정화하는 도구로 전락한 것 같습니다. 누가 살인죄를 저질렀는지 모르는 상황에서는 멍예를 지지 않은 어린 송아지를 희생시켜 그 피로 죄사함을 받으라는 것으로 읽히는데요. 좀 너무한 것 같다는 생각이 드네요.

기괴하고 기괴하다
10 " When you go out to against your enemies, and the Lord your God gives them into your hand and you take them captive, 11 and you see among the captives a beautiful woman, and you desire to take her to be your wife, 12 and you bring her home to your house, she shall shave her head and pare her nails. 13 And she shall take off the clothes in which she was captured and shall remain in your house and lament her father and her mother for a full month. After that you may go in to her and be her husband, and she shall be your wife. 14 But if you no longer delight in her, you shall let her go where she wants. But you shall not sell her for money, nor shall you treat her as a slave, since you have humiliated her.
여태 읽은 구약 성경 부분 중 가장 역한 부분 중 하나입니다. 전쟁 포로로 잡은 여성 중 아름다운 여자를 보고 마음에 들어 아내로 삼고 싶다는 심보 자체도 소름끼치는데요. 집으로 데려와 한 달 동안 머무르게 한답니다. 부모를 잃은 애도의 기간을 둔다는 것인데요. 그런 후 머리를 자르고 손톱을 자르게 하여 일종의 정화의식을 치르고 한 달 후 원한다면 아내로 맞이한답니다. 일단 욕보이고 난 후 여자가 원하지 않으면 자유롭게 풀어준다는 것인지 모르겠으나 돈 받고 팔지도 말고 종처럼 부리지 말라고 합니다. 하나님을 믿는다고 하면서 이런 모순들이 현재까지도 자행되고 있다는 것이 정말로 끔찍합니다.
이런 구절을 읽을 때마다 무신론에 무게를 두게 됩니다. 성경 속 신화는 누구보다 인간적인데 일단 질투 많고 화내고 후회하고 실수하고 편애하고 학살하고 감시하고 계약을 깨기도 하는 등 상당히 수준 낮은 모습을 많이 보여줍니다. 미개한 우주 약탈자가 아니고서야 어찌 이런 무도한 일을 자행할 수 있을까요? 기독교인들은 이런 것은 싹 무시하고 오로지 주여 믿습니다 뿐이라는 게 개탄스럽습니다.
장자의 상속권
15 "If a man has two wives, one loved and the other unloved, and both the loved and the unloved have borne him children, and if the firstborn son belongs to the unloved, 16 then on the day when he assigns his possessions as an inheritance to his sons, he may not treat the son of the loved as the firstborn in preference to the son of the unloved, who is the firstborn, 17 but he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the unloved, by giving him a double portion of all that he has, for he is the firstfruits of his strength. The right of the firstborn is his.
두 아내가 있는 것도 어이가 없는데 둘 중 사랑하지 않는 아내에게서 아들이 먼저 태어났다면 장자에게 두 배의 재산을 물려줘야 한다고 합니다. 카인과 아벨을 비롯해서 이삭과 이스마엘, 에서와 야곱 르우벤과 요셉 므낫세와 에브라임 등 신은 계속해서 장자의 권리를 무너뜨리고 편애로 질서를 흔들었는데 이건 무슨 시추에이션인지 모르겠네요. 약자 보호는 개뿔, 성경은 처음부터 기득권 유지에 권력 정당화 그리고 통제 시스템을 설계하는 책에 불과하다는 것을 여실히 보여주고 있습니다.
말 안 듣는 아들은 돌로 뭐라고?
18 "If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they discipline him, will not listen to them, 19 then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, 20 and they shall say to the elders of his city, 'This our son is stubborn and rebelious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard. 21 Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall purge the evil from your midst, and all Israel shall hear, and fear.
아주 점입가경입니다. 부모 말 안 듣는 아들이 있으면 사람들 앞에서 공개 재판을 받고 돌을 쳐서 죽이라고 합니다. 너희 중에서 악을 제거하라는 건데요. 사이비 종교나 북한 공산당에서나 있을 법한 일이네요. 이렇게 전체주의적 통제와 집단적 책임을 묻는 공포 정치의 전형을 보이는 데 어떻게 납득을 하라는 건지 모르겠습니다.
22. "And if a man has committed a crime punishable by death and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, 23 his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall bury him the same day, for a hanged man is cursed by God. You shall not defile your land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance.
그렇게 죽임을 당한 사람을 나무에 매달아 두는데 밤새 시신을 걸어두지 말고 그 날 안에 장사하라고 합니다. 너무 잔혹합니다. 매달아서 본보기를 보이겠다는 것과 땅을 더럽히지 않겠다는 것과 전염병을 의식해서 빨리 처리하겠다고 읽히거든요. 저주받은 사람이기에 그리 한다는 것인데 하나님은 본디 사람을 저주하지 말고 원수를 사랑하라고 하지 않았던가요? 심지어 말 안 듣는 아들을 돌로 처 죽이고도 나무에 매달아 두는 그런 잔인한 짓을 하는 게 무슨 고아나 과부 등 약자를 돌본단 말입니까?
