신명기 6장은 유대교인들에게 매우 중요한 장입니다. 하나님은 유일한 분이다라는 유일신 신앙 즉 모노테이즘을 강조하는데요. 유대인들은 매일 아침과 저녁에 쉐마 기도를 암송한다고 합니다. 특히 테플린과 메주자에 쉐마 구절을 넣어 사용한다는데 유대교에 관해 알려면 신명기 6장이 핵폭탄급 핵심 장일 것 같습니다.
젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅으로
1. "Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the rules that the Lord your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it, 2 that you may fear the Lord your God, you and your son and your son's son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be long. 3. Here therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do them, that it may go well with you, and that you may multiply greatly, as the Lord , the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.
말 잘 들으면 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 곳에서 번영을 누리며 살 수 있으리라 확답을 해주십니다.
십계명을 다시 상기시키는 내용의 신명기 5장

4."Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
신명기 5장 4절은 유대교에서 가장 중시하는 대목 중 한 구절이라고 합니다. 오직 여호와 한 분뿐이란 말이니까요. 로드가 우리의 가드고 로드는 유일하다고 하는 것인데 가드와 로드의 차이점이 뭘까요? 언제부터 성경에서 로드가 등장했는데요. god는 그야말로 창조주를 의미하는 신인데 lord는 또 뭔가 싶습니다. lord는 주인님 혹은 지배자나 통치자를 의미하는 거잖아요? 뭐랄까 하나님이 통치도 직접 하겠다며 율법을 전파한 것인지는 모르겠으나 기독교에서 가드는 하나님 로드는 주님이라고 통상 많이 씁니다. god는 히브리어로 엘로힘을 의미하여 창조주 하나님 그 자체이며 lord는 히브리어로 야훼라고 합니다. 혹은 아도나이라고 하는데요. 개신교에서는 가드보다는 로드 개념을 더 많이 쓰는 것 같기도 합니다. 하나님의 이름으로 봐도 될 것이고요.
5. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
5장부터는 하나님의 말씀을 깊이 새기고 깊이 사랑하라고 하시고, 오직 나만 바라보라고 하시는데요. 그러한 실행 징표로 테이핑? 테플린을 하라고 하십니다. 일상의 모든 순간에 말씀을 가르치고 새기라는 것인데요. 특히 8절은 그것을 손목에 매서 기호를 삼으며 미간에 표로 삼으라고 합니다. 유대인들은 이것을 그대로 행하여 일종의 테필린(phylacteries)를 사용한다고 하는데요. 일종의 가죽끈으로 된 작은 상자 안에 성경 구절을 적어 손과 이마에 묶는 것입니다. 참으로 기괴합니다. 이런 걸 하고 다니는 사람은 한 번도 본 적이 없는 것 같은데 행여라도 마주하게 되면 독실한 유대교인이라고 여기면 될 것 같습니다. 또한, 9절에는 너희 집 문설주와 바깥문에 기록을 하라고 하는데요. 이것은 메주자(Mezuzah)라고 하는 작은 상자에 성경구절 6장 4절에서 9절 그리고 11장 13절에서 21절의 내용을 적고 집 문에 붙여놓는 행위입니다.
마치 이발소 표식 같기도 하고, 동양의 입춘대길 등 길흉화복을 기원하는 새김 같기도 하네요. 하지만 이는 하나님에 대한 믿음이 얼마나 절대적이고 견고한지 표현하는 표식이라고 하니 유대교인들 정말 대단한 것 같습니다.
풍요를 보장할테니 나를 잊지 마라
10. "And when the Lord your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you with great and good cities that you did not build, 11 and houses full on all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant- and when you eat and are full, 12. then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 13. It is the Lord your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear. 14. You shall not fo after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are around you 15. for the Lord your God in your midst is a jealous God-lest the anger of the LOrd your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth.
하나님이 아브라함부터 이삭 그리고 야곱과 후손을 데리고 일하지 않아도 포도와 올리브가 풍부한 곳으로 인도하고 축복을 약속했으니 하나님을 잊지 말고 섬기라는 강조 문구입니다.
16 "You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah. 17 You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded you. 18. And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may go well with you, and that you may go in and take possession of the good land that the Lord swore to give to your fathers 19 by thrusting out all your enemies from before you, as the Lord has promised.
출애굽기 17장에는 백성들이 물이 없다고 툴툴거리는 일명 르비딤 마사 사건이 등장합니다. 그때처럼 당신을 시험하지 말라고 하십니다. 지속해서 주님이 보시기에 좋고 옳은 일을 하면서 순종하고 근면하게 살라는 의미 같습니다. 의심도 하지 말라 시험도 하지 말라 오로지 복종 복종이네요.
자녀들에게 신앙 전수하는 법
20."When your son asks you in time to come, 'What is the meaning of the testimonies and the statutes and the rules that the Lord our God has commanded you? 21 then you shall say to your son, 'We were Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt with a mighty hand. 22 And the Lord showed signs and wonders, great and grievous, against Egypt and against Pharaoh and all his household, before our eyes. 23 And he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in and give us the land that he swore to give to our fathers. 24 And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as we are this day. 25 And it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to do all this commandment before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us.'
하나님이 지도 편달을 해주십니다. 만약 너희 자손들이 묻거든 너희는 이집트에서 노예 생활을 하다 하나님의 도움으로 탈출하여 현재 잘 먹고 잘 살고 있으니 말을 잘 들어야 한다 뭐 이런 의미지 않으려나요?
