권력을 공고히한 레위지파의 축복과 저주 심판 신명기 27장

신명기 27장은 십계명 위에 율법 하나님 위에 레위 지파라는 어떤 권력 체계를 공고히 한 선포 같은 것이 아닌가 합니다. 명실공히 레위 지파의 세상이 온 것만 같거든요. 하나님은 다소 배제되고 그저 하나님 팔이로만 보이는 이 쎄한 느낌은 뭘까요?

율법을 돌 위에 기록하고

1. Now Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, "Keep the whole commandment that I command you today. 2 And on the day you cross over the Jordan to the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall set up large stones and plaster them with plaster. 3 And you shall write on them all the words of this law, when you cross over to enter the land that the Lord your God is giving you,  a land flowing with milk and honey, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you. 4 And when you have crossed over the Jordan, you shall set up these stones, concerning which I command you today, on Mount Ebal, and you shall plaster them with plaster. 5 And there you shall build an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones. You shall wield no iron tool on them; 6 you shall build an altar to the Lord your God of uncut stones. And you shall offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God, 7 and you shall sacrifice peace offerings and shall eat there, and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God. 8 And you shall write o the stones all the words of this law very plainly."

 

 

율법을 돌 위에 기록하고 그를 따르라는 내용입니다. 요단강을 건넌 후 새 나라에서 살 곳에서 율법을 새기고 말씀을 따르라는 건데요. 석회를 왜 바르는가 했더니 석회를 바르면 가독성이 높고 보존성을 높이기 위함이라고 합니다. 그리고 흰 석회는 깨끗함과 순결함을 의미하는 거라고 하였는데요. 이런 것은 어찌 안 것일까요?

잠자코 들어라

9 Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, "Keep silence and hear, O Israel: this day you have become the people of the Lord your God. 10 You shall therefore obey the voice of the Lord your God, keeping his commandments and his statutes, which I command you today."

 

 

레위 제사장이 잠자코 들으라고 하더니 하나님 백성임을 기억하고 명령에 복종하라고 합니다. 신명기 27장 9절에서 10절은 레위 지파의 오만이 적나라하게 드러나는 구절로 보입니다. 모세와 한통속 레위 지파는 신앙을 빌미로 권력을 사유화한 악랄한 집단이라고 생각합니다. 여기서도 하나님이 말씀하신 내용이 없고 오로지 모세와 레위지파의 명으로 너희들은 명령과 규례를 행하라고 하는데요. 자기들 말 잘 들으라는 얘기겠죠.

레위 지파의 권위를 강화하려는 의도

 

11. That day Moses charged the people, saying, 12 "When you have crossed over the Jordan, these shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin. 13 And these shall stand on Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. 14 And the Levities shall declare to all the men of Israel in a loud voice.

 

11절도 어김없이 그와 맥을 같이 합니다. 하나님을 대신한다기보다 레위 지파의 역할이 더 강조되고 있으며 권력을 공고히 하려는 의도가 엿보입니다. 요단강을 건넌 후 이스라엘 지파를 두 그룹으로 나누고 그리심 산에서 축복을 선포할 지파 6개 시므온, 레위, 유다, 잇사갈, 요셉 벤야민 그리고 에발 산에서 저주를 선포할 지파 6개 르우벤, 갓, 아셀, 스불론, 단, 납달리로 나누고 레위 지파가 이 모든 것을 진행하며 백성들에게 선포합니다. 

 

 

이리하여 축복을 선포하는 지파는 특권층이 되고 저주를 선포하는 지파는 권력에서 밀린 지파가 됩니다. 이 역시도 하나님의 계획이라기 보다는 모세의 치밀한 아이디어였을 것으로 추정됩니다. 권력 재편을 위한 편 가르기가 확실해 보입니다.

권력을 공고히 하다

 

15 "Cursed be the man who makes a carved or cast-metal image, and abomination to the Lord, a thing made by the hands of a craftsman, and sets it up in secret.' And all the people shall answer and say, 'Amen.'

 16 "Cursed be anyone who dishonours his father or his mother.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

 17 'Cursed be anyone who moves his neighbour's landmark.' ANd all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

18 "Cursed be anyone who misleads a blind man on the road.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

19 "Cursed be anyone who perverts the justice due to the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

20 'Cursed be anyone who lies with his father's wife, because he has uncovered his father's nakedness. And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

21 "Cursed be anyone who lies with any kind of animal.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

22 'Cursed be anyone who lies with his sister, whether the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

23 "Cursed be anyone who lies with his mother-in-law.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

24 "Cursed be anyone who strikes down his neighbour in secret.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

25 "Cursed be anyone who takes a bribe shed innocent blood.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

26 "Cursed be anyone who does not confirm the words of this law by doing them.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

 

이미 하나님의 십계명이 있는데도 레위 지파의 명령 체계 안에 새로운 율법을 공표하는 것도 좀 당황스럽습니다. 게다가 레위 지파는 축복을 담당한다면서 저주 영역은 왜 들어왔는지 모르겠습니다. 결국 축복과 저주를 독점한 것으로 보입니다. 물론 율법을 지키는 것은 축복이 될 수도 있지만 율법을 어기면 저주를 받을 거란 공언 장치이며 모든 백성이 아멘으로 응답하는 방식도 절대복종을 강요하는 것처럼 보입니다. 이 모든 정황을 보니 성경은 권력층이 자신들의 권력을 공고히 하기 위해 하나님 팔이를 하면서 일종의 장치를 구축한 것이 아닌가 합니다.
