언약 갱신과 하나님의 비밀 신명기 29장

모압에서의 언약 갱신을 다루며 호렙 언약을 다룹니다. 그러면서 율법을 지킬 것을 또 강조하며 우상 숭배의 위험과 불순종의 결과를 암시합니다. 특히 인간은 모르는 하나님의 비밀이 감추어져 있다고 하니 나쁜 일을 하면 어떻게 될지 심히 두렵네요.

언약의 갱신

1 These are the words of the covenant that the Lord commanded Moses to make with the people of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant that he had made with them at Horeb.

 

 

신명기 28장 읽기

축복은 조금 절망은 극치를 보여준 신명기 28장

 

2. And Moses summoned all Israel and said to them: "You have seen all that the Lord did before your eyes in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land, 3 the great trials that your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders. 4 But to this day the Lord has not given you a heart to understand or eyes to see or ears to hear. 5 I have led you for forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not worn out on you. and your sandals have not worn off your feet. 6 You have not eaten bread, and you have not drunk wine or strong drink, that you may know that I am the Lord your God. 7 And when you came to this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out against us to battle, but we defeated them. 8 We took their land and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of the Manassites. 9 Therefore keep the words of this covenant and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.

 

 

모압에서 한 약속과는 별개로 호렙에서 다시금 언약을 갱신하게 되는데요. 이 약속은 하나님이 주체이며 모세가 중재자가 됩니다. 그러면서 모세는 말하죠. 하나님의 생색인지는 모르겠으나 40년 동안 광야를 헤매면서도 신발하나 옷 한 번 닳지 않았다고 합니다. 그러나 이것은 신비한 능력이라기보다는 지속적으로 식량과 물품을 보급했다는 것으로 읽힙니다.

언약의 대상자

10 "You are standing today all of you before the Lord your God: the heads of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, all the men of Israel, 11 your little ones, your wives, and the sojourner who is in your camp, from the one who chops your wood to the one who draws your water, 12 so that you may enter into the sworn covenant of the Lord your God, which the Lord your God is making with you today, 13 that he may establish you today as his people, and that he may be your God, as he promised you, and as he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 14 It is not with you alone that I am making this sworn covernant, 15 but with whoever is standing here with us today before the Lord our God, and with whoever is not here with us today.

 

 

하나님의 언약은 지도자들뿐만 아니라 백성 전체를 포함합니다. 그리고 이 언약은 미래 세대까지 영향을 미친다고 합니다.

 

 

16 "You know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you passed. 17 And you have seen their detestable things, their idols of wood and stone, of silver and gold, which were among them. 18 Bewre lest there be among you a man or woman or clan or tribe whose heart is turning away today from the Lord our God to go and serve the gods of those nations. Beware lest there be among you a root bearing poisonous and bitter fruit, 19 one who, when he hears the words of this sworn covenant, blesses himself in his heart, saying, 'I shall be safe, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart.' This will lead to the sweeping away of moist and dry alike.

 

여기서 젖은 것과 마른 것을 함께 멸한다는 것이 인상적인데요. 좋은 것과 나쁜 것 모두를 멸한다는 의미라고 합니다. 농업 기반 사회라서 젖은 것은 비교적 신선하고 건강한 것을 의미하고 마르고 건조한 것은 안 좋은 것으로 보아서 이렇게 적절한 비유를 한 것 같다고. 

 

20 The Lord will not be willing to forgive him, but rather the anger of the Lord and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and the curses written in this book will settle upon him, and the Lord will blot out his name from under heaven. 21 And the Lord will single him out from all the tribes of Israel for calamity, in accordance with all the curses of the covenant written in this Book of the Law. 22 And the next generation, your children who rise up after you, and the foreigner who comes from a far land, will say, when they see the afflictions of that land and the sicknesses with which the Lord has made it sick- 23 the whole land burned out with brimstone and salt, nothing sown and nothing growing, where no plant can sprout, and overthrow like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in his anger and wrath- 24 all the nations will say, 'Why has the Lord done thus to this land? 25 Then people will say, 'It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, 26 and went and served other gods ad worshipped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them. 27 Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, bringing upon it all the curses written in this book, 28 and the Lord uprooted them from their land in anger and fury and great wrath, and cast them into another land, as they are this day.'

 

일단 우상숭배하면 절대 큰일난다고 엄중 경고하십니다.

감추어진 일

 

29 "The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belog to us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

 

29절은 감추어진 일은 우리 하나님께 속하였거니와 나타난 일은 영원히 우리와 우리 자손에게 속하였나니, 이는 우리에게 이 율법의 모든 말씀을 행하게 하심이니라. 여기서 감추어진 일은 하나님만이 알고 있는 비밀 같은데요. 미래에 일어날 어떤 일을 암시하는 것 같네요.
