아무도 모르는 모세의 무덤 신명기 34장

느보산 꼭대기에 올라가 하나님이 약속한 가나안 땅을 내려다본 모세는 120세 멀쩡한 신체를 유지한 채 모압 산 근처에서 죽고 묻히게 됩니다. 그의 무덤을 아는 이는 하나도 없었고요. 그는 지혜의 영을 받은 여호수아를 후계자로 천명하고 떠났답니다.

모세의 무덤은 어디에?

1. Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the Lord showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as fas as the western sea, 3 the Negeb, and the Plain, that is, the Valley of Jericho the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. 4 And the Lord said to him, "This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, 'I will give it to your offspring.' I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there." 5 So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord, 6 and he buried him in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth-peor; but no one knows the place of his burial to this day. 7 Moses was 120 years old when he died. His eye was undimmed, and his vigour unabated. 8 And the people of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab for thirty days. Then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended. 

 

 

모세는 120세에 사망했지만, 기력도 쇠하지 않고 시력도 흐려지지 않았다고 합니다. 그리고 무덤이 모압산 근처에 묻혔다고는 하는데 아무도 알지 못한다고 합니다. 이것은 모세의 우상화를 막기 위한 하나님의 방책이란 말도 있고요. 그냥 실존 인물이 아닌 신화적 인물로 만들어졌을 거란 얘기도 있습니다. 그것도 아니라면 모세는 정말 특별한 존재, 소위 천사 같은 영적 존재였는지도 모르겠습니다.

여호수아

9 And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him. So the people of Israel obeyed him and did as the Lord had commanded Moses. 10 And there has not arisen a prophet since in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, 11 none like him for all the signs and the wonders that the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land, 12 and for all the mighty power and all the great deeds of terror that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.

 

이제 모세의 시대가 가고 여호수아의 시대가 왔음을 알리는 것 같은데요. 눈의 아들 여호수아는 지혜의 영을 받아 모세의 뒤를 이을 지도자로 공표하였습니다. 모세는 하나님의 특별 사명을 받은 역할을 했다면 여호수아는 군사적 지도자로서의 역할이 더 클 거로 예상됩니다.
