출애굽기 12장 내용은 드디어 겁에 질린 이집트 왕이 이스라엘 민족을 풀어주는 내용입니다. 아예 문을 터주고 귀금속까지 얹어 주며 제발 떠나가라는 분위기가 느껴지는데요. 하나님은 이집트에게 처음 나는 모든 것을 죽여 버리는 응징을 하고 이 날을 기념하기 위한 유월절을 정하고 그에 대한 규칙을 규정합니다.
달의 시작 초승달
1. The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,
2. " This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you.
출애굽기 12장 2절은 유대인들에게 매우 중요한 구절일 것 같습니다. 달을 중심으로 한 음력에서 유래된 아브라고도 하는 니산의 달을 종교력의 첫 달로 표시하는 것을 공표하기 때문입니다. 니산은 일반적으로 초승달을 보는 것으로 시작한다고 합니다. 여기서 보는 달의 시작 그리고 첫 달로 보는데요. 오늘날 쓰는 양력으로는 4월 정도에 해당한다고 합니다.
3. Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb for household.
4. And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb.
5. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old You may take it from the sheep or from the goats,
6. and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight.
7. " Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.
8. They shall eat the flesh that night , roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it.
9. Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted, its head with its legs and its inner parts.
10. And you shall let none of it remain until the morning; anyting that remains until the morning you shall burn.
11. In this manner you shall eat it: with your belt fastened, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you shall eat it in haste. It is the LORD's Passover.
12. For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD.
13. The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.
그리고 유월절을 기념으로 일종의 행사에 관한 절차 등을 꽤나 구체적으로 알려주시는데요. 이 달 열흘에 어린양을 잡아 바치되 니네 집 양이 작으면 이웃의 양을 취하여 적절한 분배를 하라는 의미인지. 그리고 흠이 없는 1년 된 수컷의 염소나 양을 취해 14일째까지 기다렸다가 해가 질 때에 양을 잡아 그 피를 양을 먹을 집 좌우 문설주와 인방에 바르고 밤에 고기를 구워 무교병과 쓴 나물과 먹되 절대 날것으로 먹지 말고 머리와 다리와 내장을 다 불에 구워 먹고 아침까지 남은 것이 있으면 불에 태우라고 합니다.
11절 먹을 때의 규칙도 있습니다. 허리에 띠를 띠고 발에 신을 신고 손에 지팡이를 잡고 빨리 먹으라고 합니다. 아니 먹다가 체하면 어쩌려고 서둘러서 먹으라고 하는 건지 도무지 이해가 안 가네요.
그리고는 그 날 밤 그리고 주님 자신은 이집트 땅을 두루 다니며 사람이나 짐승이나 막론하고 애굽에 있는 모든 우상 같은 신을 치워 버리겠다고 합니다. 그러면서 나는 왕이다가 아닌 내가 신이다라고 합니다.
그러면서 주님 자신이 애굽 땅을 칠 때에 그 피가 너희가 사는 집의 표적이 될 거라고 합니다. 그러니까 양피를 묻힌 표식이 있는 집은 무탈할 것이고 그렇지 않은 곳은 재앙을 주겠다는 것입니다. 그리고는 너희는 이 날을 기념하여 여호와의 절기를 삼아 영원한 규례로 대대로 지키라고 합니다. 그래서 현재까지도 유월절 행사는 철저히 지켜지고 있습니다. 현재까지도 살아있는 동물의 피를 문에 묻히는지는 모르겠지만요.
무교절에 관하여
14. " This day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations, as a statute forever, you shall keep it as a feast.
15. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall remove leaven out of your houses, for if anyone eats what is leavened, from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.
그밖에 무교절에 대한 강령으로, 7일 동안 누룩을 넣지 않은 빵을 먹어야 한다고 합니다. 누룩을 먹지 않은 빵이 무교병이라고 하나 봅니다. 그러면서 첫 째 날은 누룩을 집에서 제거하고 첫날부터 일곱째 날까지 무교병이 아닌 누룩이 들어간 유교병이 들어간 빵을 먹는 자는 이스라엘에서 끊어진다고 합니다. 집에서 누룩 혹은 효모를 제거하는 것은 불순함을 없애는 상징이라고 하며 만일 누룩이 들어간 빵을 먹는 자는 이스라엘 가문의 연을 끊는다고 합니다.
16. On the first day you shall hold a holy assembly, and on the seventh day a holy assembly. No work shall be done on those days. But what everyone needs to eat, that alone may be prepared by you.
첫 날과 일곱째 날에는 아무 일도 하지 말고 최소한의 음식만 먹으라고 하네요.
17. And you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt. Therefore you shall observe this day, throughout your generations, as a statute forever.
18. In the first month, from the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread until the twentyfirst day of the month at evening.
19. For seven days no leaven is to be found in your houses. If anyone eats what is leavened that person will be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is a sojourner or a native of the land.
20. You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your dwelling places you shall eat unleavened bread."
하나님은 무교절을 지키라는 말을 신신당부하는 것 같습니다. 이집트에서 탈출한 고생을 잊지 말라는 차원으로 읽히는 데요. 그리고 첫째 달 그달 14일째 저녁부터 이십일 저녁까지는 무교병을 먹으라고 합니다. 그리고 7일 동안 집에서 누룩이 발견되지 않도록 하라고 합니다. 대체 누룩이 뭐길래 이리 강경하게 먹지 말라고 하는지 알다가도 모르겠네요.
첫 유월절
21. Then Moses called all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Go and select lambs for yourselves according to your clans, and kill the passover lamb.
22. Take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and touch the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. None of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning.
23. For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians, and when he sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you.
24. You shall observe this rite as a statute for you and for your sons forever.
25. And when you come to the land that the LORD will give you, as he has promised, you shall keep this service.
26. And when your children say to you, ' What do you mean by this service?'
27. you shall say, ' It is the sacrifice of the LORD's passover, for he passed over the houses of the people of Israel in Egypt, when he struck the Egyptians but spared out houses.'" And the people bowed their heasds and worshiped.
28. Then the people of Israel went and did so; as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.
하나님께 이와 같은 얘기를 들은 모세는 이스라엘 장로들을 모아 놓고 고대로 전달합니다. 우슬초 묶음을 가져다가 그릇에 담은 피에 적셔서 그 피를 문에 뿌리고 아침까지 한 사람도 자기 집 문밖에 나가지 말라고 합니다.
처음 난 것들의 죽음 그리고 착취
29. At midnight the LORD struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock.
그리고 머선일인지 하나님은 밤중에 이집트 땅에난 모든 장자들을 없애 버립니다. 처음엔 뭔 일인가 싶었는데 기억을 되짚어보니 이집트에서 아들을 낳으면 모조리 죽여버리라는 것에 대한 응징이 아니었나 싶긴 합니다.
30. And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians. And there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where someone was not dead.
31. Then he summoned Moses and Aaron by night and said, "Up, go out from among my people, both you and the people of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as you have said.
32. Take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone, and bless me also!"
33. The Egyptians were urgent with the people to send them out of the land in haste. For they said, "We shall all be dead."
34. So the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading bowls being bound up in their cloaks on their shoulders.
35. The people of Israel had asked the Egyptians for silver and gold jewelry and for clothing.
36. And the LORD had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.
그리고는 애굽 사람들의 금은보화 및 옷 등 귀중품을 다 접수합니다. 저렇게 가축이며 사람이며 처음 난 것을 모조리 죽여 버리니 이집트 사람들이 놀라서 달라는 대로 다 줬나 봅니다.
민족 대 이동
37. And the people of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and dhildren.
38. A mixed multitude also went up with them, and very much livestock, both flocks and herds.
39. And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough that they had brought out of Egypt, for it was not leavened, because they were thrust out of Egypt and could not wait, nor had they prepared any provisions for themselves.
40. The time that the people of Israel lived in Egypt was 430 years.
41. At the end of 430 yeasrs, on that very day, all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt,
42. It was a night of watching by the LORD to bring them out of the land of Egypt; so this same night is a night of watching kept to the Lord by all the people of Israel through their generations.
이스라엘 자손들은 이집트인들에게 금은보화를 받고 라암셋을 떠나 초막절에 이르릅니다. 자그마치 육십만 명 가량 민족 대 이동을 했습니다. 이들이 서둘러 나온 통에 발효되지 않은 무교병을 구워 먹게 되었는데요. 이런 것을 기억하고자 매년 유월절에 무교병을 먹게 된 것인가 봅니다. 그걸 미리 알고 여호와께서 규정한 것인지.
유월절의 규례
43. And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "This is the statute of the Passover: no foreigner shall eat of it,
44. but every slave that is bought for money may eat of it after you have circumcised him.
45. No foreigner or hired worker may eat of it.
46. It shall be eaten in one house; you shall not take any of the flesh outside the house, and you shall not break any of its bones.
47. All the congregation of Israel shall keep it.
48. If a stranger shall sojourn with you and would keep the Passover to the LORD, let all his makes be circumcised. Then he may come near and keep it; he shall be as a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person shall eat of it.
49. There shall be one law for the native and for the stranger who sojourns among you."
50. All the people of Israel did just as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron.
51. And on that very day the LORD brought the people of Israel out of the land Egypt by their hosts.
외국 사람 즉 언약과 관계없는 이방인은 유월절 음식을 먹지 못하게 하였습니다. 그리고 돈으로 산 종은 할례를 받은 후에 먹을 수 있고 어쨌거나 타국인 등은 먹지 못하게 하랍니다. 사실 먹고 싶지도 않은 음식인데 왜 그렇게 철벽 방어를 하는지 알다가도 모르겠네요. 그러나 누구든 할례를 받으면 음식을 먹어도 된다, 즉 이스라엘 한 가족으로 받아주겠다고 합니다. 그나저나 종교와 관심 없는 사람들도 다 할례를 시키는 한국 문화도 특이하긴 합니다.
